Review of Black-Haak Heating

Best company!! Dan- technician is great! He leaves a feeling of confidence in the work done and that we're in good hands using Black Haak- inspires confidence along with being friendly. Some techs who don't say much beyond hi- don't leave me with a confident feeling.

Review of Black-Haak Heating

We bought a new furnace a few years ago from Black-Haak because of their great service. The install went well and we are very happy we picked them. In some internet advice on brands, it stated that the service is the most important item when buying a new furnace. This furnace has saved us a lot of money over the old furnace and we have no regrets.

Was here to check pressures for previous AC clean and tune; cycled the system on and checked pressures subcooling was 30 degrees with high head pressure, I removed 10 ounces of refrigerant and brought the subcooling to 13 degrees with 10 degrees of superheat and 18 degree temp split. This system is currently operating normal at this time job complete

Ac clean and tune. Tried to test indoor coil for possible leaks, no access to coil except through drain port. No indications from that vantage point. Cycled system. Tested compressor and fan motors. Both motors tested low, but still in acceptable range. Used coil cleaner on condenser coil. Found contactor and capacitor are very worn and original. Hooked up gauges and checked pressures and temps. Both were ok. Checked indoor split, split was acceptable. Coil temp was 39, subcooling was 14, split was 17. Average life expectancy for this unit is 14 years. This system is 21+ years old. Future failure is expected. Job complete.

Checked indoor coil, no leaks found at this time. Cycled system. Found fan motor bearings worn. Replaced contactor and capacitor. Tested fan motor and compressor. Fan motor tested in caution. Compressor tested low, but still in normal low normal range. Used coil cleaner on condenser coil. Hooked up gauges and checked pressures and temps. Both ok. Checked indoor temp split, ok. Fan is very loud and I recommend replacement of this motor. Failure will occur if motor is not replaced. Job complete.

Ac clean and tune. Checked indoor coil with refrigerant sniffer. Found several spots that gave indications of leaks on coil. Cleared drain line. Cycled system. Checked electrical compartment. Found capacitor and contactor worn and recommended replacement of those parts. Tested compressor and fan motor. Both tested in caution indicating that both of these motors are in jeopardy of failing. Used coil cleaner on condenser coil. Hooked up gauges and tested pressures and temps. Found system low on charge. Indoor coil temp was at 30. Subcooling was 0, super heat was 20. This shows that indoor coil will freeze and high energy usage with low cooling will continue. Average life of this unit is 14 years. This unit is 19 years old and very worn. Second opinion is recommended. Job complete.

Performed the level 2 AC cleanings on all 3 units. All electrical components tested good. The condensers were cleaned with water and nu brite. Refrigerant charges were all good. The subcools for each unit were at comfortable temperatures between 8-14°. I replaced the 213 filters for both downstairs units. The upstairs filter looked okay yet, however, I recommend customers keep an eye on it. I also recommend having both Aprilaire water panel filters replaced as they have a decent amount of calcium build up. All units are working properly at this time. We will collect payment for the filters later.

Performed AC clean and tune; inspected the electrical compartment and tested components compressor did fall below 40 megaohms therefore this component failed I also tested capacitor it did pass but does is showing signs of wear considering the amount of rust I do foresee issues with these parts in the future, i then sprayed down the condenser with coil cleaner, then cycled the system on and checked pressures and temps superheat is sitting at 6 sub cooling is at 4 degrees with a 12 degree temp split. This system is currently running but not effectively conditioning the air space. Due to the current condition and cost to repair second opinion is scheduled with Dan F to email over options. Indoor coil temp is between 30 and 35 degrees. This will cause icing of indoor coil this may result in damage to new furnace. Split was 13. Second opinion set up for tomorrow at 230 pm with Dan F.
